New Delhi – The Indian Army is set to host the second edition of the Chanakya Defense Dialogue, its flagship international seminar, on October 24 and 25, 2024, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. Themed “Drivers in Nation Building: Fuelling Growth Through Comprehensive Security,” the event aims to foster discussions on integrating security strategies into national and global policymaking to support sustainable and inclusive growth.
The two-day event will bring together prominent policymakers, strategic thinkers, academics, defense personnel, veterans, scientists, and industry experts from India and abroad. Delegates from the United States, Russia, Israel, and Sri Lanka are among those attending to discuss India’s path towards “Viksit Bharat @2047,” focusing on the role of comprehensive security in national development.
India’s Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, will inaugurate the dialogue as the Chief Guest and launch two key initiatives: the Indian Army’s Green Initiative 1.0 and Digitization of IA 1.0. Singh will deliver a keynote address on “India’s Vision for Development and Security,” stressing the importance of comprehensive security in achieving India’s developmental goals. General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff, will also address the gathering, highlighting the Indian Army’s contributions to nation-building and its alignment with the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative.
The Chanakya Defense Dialogue will feature six expert-led sessions addressing various aspects of comprehensive security. Among them is a session on geopolitical dynamics, moderated by Palki Sharma of Network 18, with speakers including former U.S. official Lisa Curtis and Ambassador Kanwal Sibal of India. Other sessions will delve into economic development and national security, environmental sustainability, social cohesion, technology’s role in defense, and the future of land warfare.
A special address by Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO, on India’s expanding space sector and insights from Ruchira Kamboj, Former Permanent Representative of India to the UN, will also feature on the second day.
The event will conclude with a summary of the discussions by Lt. Gen. N S Raja Subramani, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, reaffirming the Indian Army’s dedication to securing India’s future.
The Chanakya Defense Dialogue 2024 is expected to shape India’s national security policies and contribute to the broader goal of building a secure and prosperous nation by 2047.
