Visakhapatnam, India – The Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise (SLINEX) 2024 will be held from December 17 to 20 at Visakhapatnam under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command. The exercise, aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation between the two nations, will take place in two phases: the Harbour Phase from December 17 to 18, followed by the Sea Phase from December 19 to 20.
Initiated in 2005, SLINEX has grown into a significant platform for bilateral naval collaboration, fostering greater interoperability between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies.
The Indian Navy will be represented by INS Sumitra, a Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel of the Eastern Fleet, accompanied by a Special Forces team. The Sri Lankan Navy will participate with SLNS Sayura, an offshore patrol vessel carrying a Special Forces team.

The inaugural ceremony will take place on December 17, marking the start of the Harbour Phase, during which personnel from both navies will engage in professional and social exchanges to build stronger ties and share best practices.
Beginning on December 19, the Sea Phase will include a range of joint exercises, such as Special Forces operations, gun firings, communication drills, seamanship practices, navigation evolutions, and helicopter operations. These exercises aim to improve operational coordination and strengthen mutual capabilities in maritime security operations.
Over the years, SLINEX has expanded in scope, contributing to a safer and more secure maritime environment in the region. The 2024 edition of SLINEX underscores India and Sri Lanka’s commitment to fostering strong naval ties and promoting a rules-based maritime order.
The exercise continues to serve as a vital platform for deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries, enhancing cooperation, and ensuring the stability of shared maritime spaces.
