IOC USA President Mohinder Singh Gilzian Calls for Unity and Decisive Action

Date:

LONG ISLAND, NY – The Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) USA recently concluded a high-level national meeting, signaling a renewed era of unity and strategic expansion for the organization. Bringing together senior leadership and members from across the United States, the summit served as a platform to reinforce the organization’s commitment to democratic principles and grassroots mobilization.

The proceedings began with an inauguration by Mohinder Singh Gilzian, President of IOC USA. In a poignant start to the session, attendees observed a moment of silence in memory of the late Harbachan Singh, honoring his enduring legacy and contributions to the Indian diaspora.

Addressing the assembly, President Gilzian described the current political climate as a defining time for the organization. “IOC has grown into a strong and vibrant force across the United States,” Gilzian stated. “It is now our collective responsibility to expand further, strengthen our structures, and actively contribute to safeguarding democratic values.”

The meeting highlighted the impressive reach of the IOC, which has now evolved into a global movement spanning 32 countries. George Abraham, Vice-Chairman of IOC USA, noted that the organization has become a trailblazer for the diaspora. “The commitment shown by members traveling from across the country is a testament to the strength of this movement,” he said, urging members to take the momentum to a national level.

Strategic expansion was a core theme of the day. Pradeep Samala, Working President, outlined a vision for growing both national and state-level chapters. His roadmap focuses on enhancing coordination across chapters and prioritizing sustained community outreach to increase membership.

Joining the meeting via Zoom, Sam Pitroda, Global Chairman of the IOC, delivered a powerful keynote address emphasizing the urgency of the current global and domestic situation in India.

“We are at a critical juncture where the values of democracy, freedom, unity, and diversity must be actively defended,” Pitroda remarked. He commended the expansion of the USA wing but challenged members to move beyond discussion toward “execution, outreach, and meaningful engagement” with diverse communities.

With an eye on the future, leaders representing chapters from Punjab, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and various U.S. states—including California, Texas, New York, and Illinois—emphasized the need for coordinated strategic action. A significant portion of the strategy session was dedicated to the upcoming Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, with a call for unified, ground-level engagement from the diaspora to support the democratic process.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of a formal resolution expressing gratitude to President Mohinder Singh Gilzian for his dynamic leadership. The event saw participation from a broad spectrum of leadership, including Vice Presidents John Joseph and Baldev Randhawa, Chairperson of the Women’s Cell Leela Maret, and various state and regional chapter presidents.
