India Strikes Nine Terror Targets in Pakistan, PoJK in Response to Pahalgam Terrorist Attack

Date:

NEW DELHI — The Indian Armed Forces launched a series of precision strikes early Wednesday under “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), government officials said.

The strikes were in response to last week’s deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national were killed. Indian authorities have blamed the assault on terror groups operating from across the border.

Per a statement from the Indian Army, the operation was “focused, measured and non-escalatory” in nature. No Pakistani military installations were targeted, and the Indian military emphasized that “considerable restraint” was exercised in both the selection of targets and the methods used.

“Operation Sindoor demonstrates India’s resolve to hold accountable those responsible for orchestrating terror against its citizens,” the statement said. “The strikes were carefully calibrated to avoid civilian and military escalation.”

Indian officials said the targeted sites were used to plan and coordinate attacks against India. They did not name the specific groups or individuals behind the Pahalgam attack but said more details would be shared during a formal briefing scheduled later today.

Pakistani authorities have confirmed attacks on Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad and Kotli in Pakistan.

The strikes mark one of the most significant cross-border military actions by India since the Balakot airstrikes in 2019, which were also conducted in response to a major terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

This is a developing story.
