Date:

WASHINGTON, DC — Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu will visit India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal from December 3 to December 10 to bolster regional partnerships and promote shared goals of prosperity and security, the State Department announced.

Lu will begin his trip in New Delhi, where he and Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink will lead US participation in the US-India East Asia Consultations. The meetings aim to strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the Indo-Pacific and address global and regional challenges through consultations with senior Indian officials.

On December 5, Lu will travel to Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he will work with officials from Sri Lanka’s new administration and civil society representatives to support sustainable economic growth and efforts to combat corruption. USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth will join him. The discussions will focus on strengthening governance, supporting economic reforms, and enhancing U.S.-Sri Lankan ties through technical assistance and development programs.

Lu will conclude his trip in Kathmandu, Nepal, where he will engage with senior leaders on environmental protection, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development. He will also meet with youth leaders to discuss the future of US-Nepal relations. Cultural preservation, a cornerstone of Nepal’s identity and a key driver of its economy, will also be a focus of discussions.
